Young Members Summit was held in November and brought 70 young members from across to country to debate the issues that matter most to young workers and decide their priority campaign for the year.

Young members decided that organising warehouse and distribution workers, namely in Amazon, would be their top priority for 2019. They will launch a full campaign on in the new year.

Given young members will be doing a lot to organising in Amazon, to recruit Student Union workers and organise apprentices, guest speakers included Birmingham Region's Amazon Organisers, Shakira Martin, President of the National Union of Students and Ben Kinross, from the National Society of Apprentices.

Young Member Awards were also held, with Hannah Ruddick winning workplace organiser, Paddy Benham winning Regional Activist, and Charlie Gray winning the Young Turner Award for National Campaigner.

Pre-summit, an organising school was held, giving young members the knowledge and skill required to go back and recruit in their workplace. From this, 18 young people signed up to become reps.

Training was also held on workers rights, becoming young leaders and organising their workplace.

If you or a member you know is interested in attending Summit in future, becoming a young rep or getting more involved in your regional Young Members Network, please contact melanie.bartlett@gmb.org.uk for details.
