Did you know GMB holds specific training schools for young members (members 30 and under)? Alongside Durham Miners Gala in July, the biggest annual celebration in the trade union calendar, GMB holds an introductory Political School for young members. The school aims to equip members with the practical skills to run an effective campaign and provide members with a good understanding of why GMB engages in politics to achieve effective change for our members. GMB also holds a History School, alongside Tolpuddle Festival in July (Tolpuddle is where modern trade unionism was founded). Its a weekend of camping, learning about trade union history and networking/socialising with other likeminded people. Alongside Young Members Summit in November, we also hold an Organising School, which gives members a taster of GMB@Work and provides participants with the skills and knowledge to talk to other young members about unions. If you are interested in attending any of these courses, you can get in contact with your Regional Equality Officer. You can also register your interest with National Office or submit any other ideas for future young members schools by emailing melanie.bartlett@gmb.org.uk.
