94% of households have a digital TV. The average person watches telly for over three and a half hours a day.
Facebook came into the world in 2004; it now has over 2 billion users worldwide.
There are 92 million mobile phone subscriptions in the UK. And 74% of users are on a smart phone.
Any organisation that wants to make change happen, has to be part of the conversation.
That’s what GMB communications are about.
And to build our union, GMB has three main aims when we communicate:
Recruiting new members – the more members we have, the louder our voice
Achieving change for existing members, making a practical difference to people’s lives and celebrating our successes. If we show our members what we do, they're more likely to stay with us and get active.
Raising GMB’s profile to show everyone - from politicians, to employers to GMB members - who we are and what we do.
There's lots of ways to get our message across, from social media, to workplace noticeboards, from text messages to holding meetings, a website or even a billboard.
The aim of GMB communications training is to help GMB officers and activists find the best way to communicate based on what we want to achieve: building the union, achieving change.
This video was made by the GMB National communications team for training purposes - please feel free to use it within your region/branch.
