Meeting Bombardier reps with Regional Secretary Paul McCarthy

Yesterday I was incredibly proud to visit Bombardier workers in Northern Ireland. Our national CEC was held just down the road, so it was a perfect chance to meet workers who are seeing their jobs put at risk by Trump administration actions in the US.

Trump's admnistration decided to put an extra tarriff on the building of the C Series plane, work done at Bombardier in Belfast. Simply put, that means it costs more for US companies to buy the plans from Bombardier.

It's been a very high profile issues, and I was proud that the Shadow Secretary of State Owen Smith MP found time to meet with workers and even to give them a shout out on Question Time! Owen has been working with GMB and sister unions to put pressure on the government to step in.

It's horrendous news for workers, heading into the festive season and the New Year.

There are more than 4,500 workers at the Bombardier site in Belfast - with around 1,000 workers who work directly on the C Series planes. Bombardier has several other production and engineering sites in the EU also likely to feel the impact. Our members at Bombardier are skilled workers who do a fantastic job - it was important for me to get out there and support them, and see thr work they do first hand. Thank you all for welcoming me in!
